Instructional Use

This interaction model enables you to design an adaptive type multilevel question series. Corrective reinforcements are provided to guide a learner on to the right path whenever a wrong choice is made. The learners are also made aware of their progress through the question series by a styled status bar.

Your Materials

Before you begin creating your interactivity you will need to be prepared with the following:

  1. The question sequence that you would like to take your learner through
  2. The feedback and reinforcements for the corrective instances
  3. Sound you would like to include in the interactivity. The sound files must be in .mp3 format

Creation Process

To create a Branching Question Adaptive Type Interactivity, you need to:

  1. Go to the Detailed Customization view
  2. From the Select Parameter tree, go to Input Parameters and from the Title branch enter the title of the interactivity
  3. Then from the Question Collection branch enter your preferred settings in the following fields:
    1. Number of Questions (between 2 and 15)
    2. Question Text (for each question)
    3. Number of Choices - possible responses for each question (between 2 and 5)
    4. Text for each of the Choices in each question
    5. Correct Answer (from among the choices provided)
    6. Corrective Text (shown when a learner makes the wrong choice)
    7. Reinforcement Text (appears when a learner makes the right choice)
    8. Sub Question Text (which is the question that a learner is led to when a wrong choice is made)
    9. Number of Choices (for the Sub Question) - possible responses for each sub question (between 2 and 5)
    10. Text for each of the Choices in each sub question
    11. Correct Answer for the Sub Question (from among the choices provided)
    12. Corrective Text for the Sub Question (shown when a learner makes the wrong choice)
    13. Reinforcement Text for the Sub Question (appears when a learner makes the right choice)
  4. Once you are done with the settings, click OK. From the File menu, select Save As to save the interactivity, and then Publish to use it where you like

Customizing the Interactivity

To customize this interactivity, go to the Detailed Customization View. Customizations will be possible through the Select Parameter section on your screen.

  1. Parameters you can customize:
    1. Images
      1. Submit Button Image (The recommended size of the image is 60 X 25 pixels)
      2. Next Button Image (The recommended size of the image is 60 X 25 pixels)
      3. Background image Under Set Parameter Values use the () button to select images from your local machine
    2. Max Score for the interactivity
    3. Audio Settings
      1. Play Introduction Sound (on/off)
      2. Show audio control (on/off)
      3. Introduction Sound File (browse and attach an audio file in .mp3 format)
      4. Audio icon - Default or image (Image - 25X25)
    4. Title of the Interactivity: The title appears at the top of the interactivity window
    5. Instruction: The instruction appears at the bottom of the interactivity window
    6. Question Settings (background settings)
    7. Feedback Text Box Properties (background settings)
    8. Branch Properties
      1. Branch Current Color
      2. Branch Done Color
      3. Branch Text background color
    9. Question Collection
      1. Number of Questions (between 2 and 15)
      2. Question Text (for each question)
      3. Question Audio (for each question)
      4. Number of Choices - possible responses for each question (between 2 and 5)
      5. Text for each of the Choices in each question
      6. Correct Answer (from among the choices provided)
      7. Corrective Text (shown when a learner makes the wrong choice)

  2. Fixed parameters:
    1. The questions can be of type Multiple choice only
    2. The same sub-question is shown for any incorrect answer

Enhanced Editing Flexibility

This interaction provides additional flexibility for resizing of text areas and also allows you to move them. To resize a particular object in the interaction, click on it and drag the handles around it. To move it, select the object by clicking on it and drag and move it. You can also set the position (by specifying the top and left) and size (by specifying the height and width) for the object in the Properties panel.

To customize this interactivity using the enhanced editing flexibility, go to the Detailed Customization View.
